How Campfire handles your memories

Yes. A memory belongs to the account that made it. Your memories stay in your Campfire unless you choose to share one. There is no feed, no way for another storyteller to browse your Campfire, and shared pages are marked so search engines don't index them.

You. And anyone you hand a share link to. That's the whole list.

Campfire makes a link with a long random key in it. The link is the key. Whoever has it can read that memory — and nothing else. A memory's name or ID opens nothing on its own.

Turn the link off, and it stops working. If the person you shared with had already chosen to Keep that memory, their own saved copy stays theirs.

It stays in your Campfire for you to listen back to. It isn't included in a memory you share — the person with the link gets the words and photos, not your voice.

Campy is powered by AI built into Campfire. When Campy transcribes or helps shape a memory, your recording or words are processed through Campfire's AI infrastructure. Behind the scenes, that infrastructure can use AI providers to perform the work. Your photos are not currently sent to the AI model.

What we can tell you plainly: Campfire itself does not train AI models on your memories, and we don't sell them.

What we can't tell you yet: exactly what the underlying providers retain, and for how long, under their own terms. We haven't finished verifying that, so we're not going to promise it. When we know, this page will say so.

Campfire removes a memory's private files and confirms they're gone before reporting the memory as deleted. Share links stop working. If Campfire can't finish the deletion, it tells you instead of pretending it worked.

Two things survive on purpose. A copy another person deliberately chose to Keep remains theirs. And a published Storybook remains the frozen artifact you chose to publish — it isn't quietly rewritten later.

Campfire is not end-to-end encrypted. That means authorized Campfire operators could technically access a memory when necessary to operate or troubleshoot the service. Our normal admin screens don't show memory content, and we don't browse people's memories.

Notes you send through Talk to Campy go to the Campfire team, not into your memories. We read them. We store the message and which account sent it — nothing else.
